Steve Macbeth is currently the General Manager of the Search
Technology Center (STC) in Beijing, China. STC is an engineering group that
works on Internet Search product development for both global and local features.
He has worked for Microsoft for more than five years in various senior product
development roles at company headquarters in Redmond, WA. Including two years as
a technical strategist in the Natural Interactive Services Division helping to
drive company strategy on natural language, speech recognition, assistance, and
activity-centric computing. During this time Steve was awarded 10 patents in the
area of natural computing and activity-centric computing.
Prior to
joining Microsoft, Steve was the founder of two successful technology startups
in Vancouver, Canada. In his role as chief technology officer, he oversaw all
aspects of engineering, product management, and company strategy.
Steve
is self taught in computer science, engineering, and business management through
over 20 years of experience and learning in all stages and aspects of software
development and technology business.
In addition to his work at
Microsoft, Steve is a senior associate with
the Foresight Institute, a non-profit think tank and public interest institute on nanotechnology
and the impact of advanced technology on society.
